| The Multiband RPM module is a self-contained port extension device that works with all Lucent Multiband products. It spans the distance from the network demarcation in the telecommunications closet to the application endpoint using existing plant wiring. This module extends the power of bandwidth on demand to the desktop, the videoconferencing room, the computer room, or the executive suite using standard unshielded twisted-pair cabling. With the Multiband RPM module, users no longer need special wiring plans to deliver switched digital bandwidth of up to 1.5 Mbps to application. The RPM module physically separates the application from the network access point while allowing users to control both the application and the network interfaces. RPM supports all the call setup options available with Multiband products: RS-366, V.25 bis, X.21, and control-lead dialing. In addition, RPM delivers full management capability to the application site, including remote management of the network interface. Typical bandwidth-on-demand applications such as videoconferencing and LAN interconnectivity are distributed through a building or campus. Users want to hold videoconferences from their top-floor executive boardroom, not from their basement information management facility. LAN administrators want their high-speed access device located with a router or bridge, not with their PBX. Multiband RPM transparently delivers bandwidth on demand to any location within the plant using common copper wiring and existing wall jacks. |
