Workable, but not perfect, November 18, 2003
By dig1001 (Taipei, Taiwan)
I got another Linksys wireless router in the same environment. The signal strength and coverage of Netgear is as good as linksys, but the connection quality is much worse. I got only 75% transmission speed from Netgear, and sometimes the speed will drop and rise again after 1 or 2 seconds. Its wireless performance is not as good as its industorial design. This router indeed has space to improve in its wireless connection quality.

Defective Out of the Box, November 16, 2003

Called Support. Couldn't fix it. Referred to a restart button in the back which was inoperable. Very disappointing.

Good product.....disappointed no rebate!!, November 15, 2003
By jkm252 (Calgary, AB)
Have used the router for about six months and working great! However, bought the router primarily due to the C$60 rebate which I have still not received. The rebate centre indicated that it was sent out 10 weeks ago, but I called them several times now and they keep having different excuses about the delay. Looks like they are giving me the run around and I have doubts whether they will honour the rebate. They have indicated that Netgear is no longer in business and I was wondering if anyone is aware that this is the case.

New to a wireless world......, November 15, 2003
By unknown
I was new to the wireless world, when i first looked into a wireless router. This router was incredibly easy to set up, especially as I am still pretty new to computers. After setting up though, i would find that intermittently i would lose the connection to my laptop. My laptop, as well as others would read a signal from the router, but the internet would be down. I have now found that whenever this does occur, to reset the router by unplugging power from the router, and then replugging it back. So far this has always resolved the problem, a little annoying, but again problem resolved.Overall though, I am happy with this router, and i think at this price, you can't beat it.

Too many drops, November 13, 2003
By Lu Meng (Vancouver, WA)
The setup of this product was super easy. The biggest problem is that the wireless connection drops like crazy, every minute or so, even though the signal is rated excellent (the laptop actually sits next to the router). The fixed line desktop doesn't experience this problem.

Good but maybe too technical, November 7, 2003
By David Hassall (Wichita, KS)
Wireless technology has come to my house and I love it, I can access my PC with my laptop while watching tv, eating lunch and everything.I can't compare this to any other wireless routers because this is the only one I have used but I have to say its great. It looks good too, It was easy to set up too, you don;t need a degree in computer engineering to figure it out. SOme of the features I don't like, but thats personal to me, I don't like the websites I visit to be recorded, and if you get pop ups it says you visited the site when you didn't. I would really recommend buying this though, its a top notch piece of kit.

Easy. Smooth Install!! Works great. Good Tech support!!!, November 6, 2003

Thank you Netgear for a great product and great price. Much better than Linksys.

It doesn't disconnect from the wireless constantly, November 6, 2003
By unknown
Previous to this, I had bought a d-link router which no matter how many times I flashed its firmware, would just constantly connect and disconnect anything hooked into its network, even if the computer was right next to the router. Initially this router did that, but then I upgraded its firmware, and it got better. Then I upgraded its firmware to the beta version available on their website and no longer had problems with things disconnecting. I haven't tested it's range 'cause I'm using it in an apartment.

Great Router, November 5, 2003
By tim0503 (USA)
I've had this device for over a month now. It is super user friendly and works great. The range in our house is excellent. You can just plug it in and go, or you can go through set-up to enable encryption, etc... Works GREAT with my Netgear wireless laptop card. I found the range to be much better than the Microsoft products I tried.

Powerful, User-Friendly, 5-Star Product!, November 4, 2003
By taz55 (Salt Lake City, Ut. United States)
This is how a wireless router should be designed! Compact, stylish design with satus lights that show you exactly what is happening. Very easy set-up, with very good documentation, makes this a great choice for beginners. Robust, Powerful advanced networking features make this an excellent router for professionals as well! Very good range, through walls, and with a "noisy" environment. All around an excellent buy!!

Bad router, November 3, 2003
By Manish Jain (atlanta)
I am disappointed with the performance of this router. I have a small wireless network of three computers with non-netgar wireless cards. This router occasionally hangsup and then needs to be rebooted. I have tried upgrading the firmware, disabling WEP. However problem persists and netgear techsupport is not of any help.

simple to install easy to use, November 3, 2003
By sm008 (Colorado, USA)
setup was very simple, plug in the ethernet wires to the router, power it up, configure the other computers with router setup wizard or manually - do this on the primary computer, set security options, router assigns IP's...that's all, start using it. I had great connectivity to my lappy for about 4-6 rooms down the hallway (worked for me)moreover the router is light weight, nice design, looks cool, for the price it's a great purchase

life expectancy of <2 weeks, November 3, 2003
By Ilya Kaplun (Cambridge, MA USA)
i purchased this router, installed it, and used it for 15 minutes before all the lights went off, and it refused to power up again. i sent it back and got a replacement. the replacement worked for 10 days and then did the exact same thing. the straightforward setup is not worth much if the product is a piece of junk. I would recommend never purchasing this product, and I question the viability of netgear products as a whole

nice design but shabby perormance, November 2, 2003

set up was complicated. i say get the d-link 604 router instead. however, if you get a netgear wireless card, it'll get detected automatically.

try "rescan" to solve lost connection problem, November 1, 2003
By unknown
Like some other people, I had problems with lost connections. It would work great for a while, then all of a sudden, it would lose connection.I tried a lot of things, but the best thing to do (in my case) is to hit the "rescan" button (rescan channel) for my wireless card. It's annoying to have to do that once in a while, but that has always solved the problem for me. I don't know if the router or my wireless card is to blame (both Netgear).

Product and technical support - the worst, November 1, 2003
By unknown
This router cannot maintain a connection to my cable modem and frequently stops working so I can't access the Internet. My previous router worked fine. Level 1 technical support is handled by workers in another country - so good luck. It took me 1.5 hours of trying to get through and working with them before I found out they couldn't solve the problem. My previous Netgear router (MR314) was much better. This router is more like a toy than a quality component. Do yourself a favor and pass up this bargain.

Easy Installation, Great reception, but..., October 31, 2003
By Paras (Carol Stream, IL United States)
Installation was relatively easy, although I had to call Tech Support and had to manually reset the router(If you have connectivity problems, and turning off the power doesn't work, you have to hold a small reset pin near the power button for 30 secs). My other room is atleast 100 ft away, and I get 76% reception, which i think is pretty good.. only problem i have every 2-3 days is, it loses connectivity. I have to power off router, remove all cables, and turn on everything back.

poor coverage., October 30, 2003
By focuspuller (Houston, TX)
This router seems to have a range of about 12 feet. Seriously. I recommend the similar SMC wireless router.

Great!, October 30, 2003
By Anoop Mullur (Troy, NY)
It's really great. Easy installation. Easy access to the router software, no connection problems. Have 2 wireless and a wired connection, no problems whatsoever. Get a 100% signal strength on first floor with router on 2nd floor. I had to change the channel to 6, though.

Excellent!, October 28, 2003

I recently got this wireless router to replace a Linksys cable/dsl router. The power supply was starting to get noisy after a year or two's use and it was bugging me. So I got the Netgear and I'm extremely satisfied.I was up and running in 5 minutes and that includes the time I spent setting up the security. (I'm very familiar with these type of devices so your results may vary.) The security is very high with this device. You can specify which MAC addresses (and thus network cards) you want to be able to access the wireless network and you can also turn on WEP encryption. Furthermore, you can also turn off the SSID broadcasting which makes your access point act in stealth mode where people would have to know the name (SSID) you configured it with in order to connect. When you combine these three levels of security, you get a great system. Besides security, it also has a much better web interface than the Linksys Cable/dsl router. There are more options for content filtering, logging, firewalls, etc. Besides that, I haven't had to reset it yet while I used to reset my Linksys about once every two weeks or so. This device is just more stable. Previously, when I would try to ftp to the public IP address of my FTP server from inside my LAN, it would hang my Linksys. This works perfectly with the Netgear. To all the geeks out there, this is a great device. Check it out!
