Essential for best connection for a desktop, May 8, 2008
By user (Austin, TX United States)
Lately, I decided to eliminate all the cables snaking around by hooking up everything wirelessly. The laptops were easy to deal with, but the performance from the USB adapter I used for the desktop was disappointing. For best performance, this adapter is much better. The USB port limits the speed to about 54 MBps on a good day, while with this adapter, you can get up to 270 Mbps. It's not as easy to set up as the wireless adapter for laptops: you have to open up the tower to install the PCI card. However, that was not as difficult as I expected. A good setup wizard handles the rest. It took less than 20 minutes and I had some decent speed again.
