wireless router, is a great option, September 30, 2005

I was a bit skeptical about purcahsing a wireless router. But we needed it in our two computer home and I did not want wires running down the hallway. I am very satisfied and have had no problems.

Ever since ordering this product, it has never been so easy to use the internet! Great connections, very easy to set up, and network! and also, a cool look! I would reccomend it! Although, the only thing is that if you have a rebate, it tends to take a while to come (only Netgear company?)...

Its a cake walk installing this router. After following the instructions, the system is up and running in 15-20 minutes. I also connected my 2nd desktop using the wireless router within no time.

Thanks to Netgear for such a wonderful product.

I purchased this router/usb adapter to create a wireless network in my home between my downstairs computer, upstairs computer, and 2 Xbox's (for which I also bought a Netgear WGE111 Wireless Game Adapter). Opened it up, followed the easy no-brainer setup sheet, and within minutes my router was setup. Went upstairs with the USB adapter, again followed the no-brainer setup instructions, and once again it worked like a charm and my upstairs computer was now linked wirelessly with the router downstairs. I then connected the WGE111 Game Adapter (which claims to be plug-and-play and truly was)to my Xbox and played Halo 2 as a test. No problems. My upstairs connection has a 100% signal strength, and my latency on my Xbox is barely higher than when it is connected with an ethernet cable.

For those of you who have little previous network experience, I couldn't have been happier about my purchase. It's amazing how things WORK when you just take a minute or two to follow the directions. Even if you want to do something more advanced (activating security, MAC filtering, port forwarding, etc) these products are robust enough to handle it with ease.

Last but not least I thought I would share my configuration with you at the time I setup these products: The router was added to a computer running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 already installed and a cable internet connection. I did not have to update Netgear's firmware; it worked right out of the box. My USB adapter was added to a computer running Windows XP with Service Pack 1. After adding the wireless connectivity to it, I then upgraded the computer to Service Pack 2 with no problems afterward.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE PRODUCTS!

I installed this wireless Netgear combination on a Compaq PC with Win ME running. It took a while to get it semi-working, but still have issues and Netgear support isn't much help.

2 issues left are: When powering up the status stays red until I manually apply the saved config (it does boot up with the saved config though). When powering down, the shutdown hangs in the last step (dark screen), and I have to manually power it off each time by pressing the power off switch for 10 seconds.

It does hang once in a while during large downloads, but this isn't a huge issue for me.

I've been all over the web trying to resolve this, including MS, Netgear, networking forums, etc. I've de-installed & re-installed a few times, cleaned out the registry, etc. Just can't get the power on/off to work correctly.
