    infuriating, July 7, 2006
By the daws (usa)
Suffered drops in connection from day one and after two weeks it has seemingly shut down for business. I'm not a techie so I don't understand why I can connect to the internet via my neighbours's wireless connection through my apt wall but not to my Netgear router two feet away from me. It's a crazy world.

DO NOT PURCHASE, July 4, 2006

This router constantly needs rebooting. At first it was once a week, now it's almost every day! I've read other reviews which have had the same problems.

    Don't buy this, June 30, 2006

Don't get carried away by the sleek design. It worked fine for a week and then the wireless component stopped working. 2-3 times a week, the router needs to be restarted. And, after 6 months, it was permanently dead. Then, finally had to replace this router. Not sure, how long this new piece would survive. Absolutely, no - no.

Great Router for the Price, June 27, 2006
By Eric Tompkins (Stockton USA)
Love this router. Worked like a charm. I connected it up, adjusted the settings and we were off and running in less than 30 minutes. This was the first wireless router I have ever used, so my knowledge/experience was limited.

For the house, I had 2 wireless laptops, one wireless desktop and one wired laptop that was sometimes wireless. Speeds on all machines were fantastic.

One complaint. I set up the router so that the machines had to be registered on the router to have access. Whenever a non-registered machined attempted to access the router, I had to restart the router.

The wireless router keeps getting knocked off. I have to power down and power up every time. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Works fine for me, June 10, 2006

I have nothing to complain about my router. It works fine. In fact, it gave great speeds (around 600 kilo Bytes per second which is around 4.5 Mbps) for wireless to wireless transfer between two laptops.

I to expected plug and play, June 9, 2006
By turkeyscanfly (New Jersey)
The installation was very difficult. I hooked up a new laptop out of the box and a new router out of the box (both purchased from Dell) and followed the instructions and could not get it going. My wife is an engineer and she couldn't even get it running.
The installation time is supposed to be around 20 minutes and after about 2 hours of messing with it I finally gave in and called support. Pretty sure it was a call center in India, nothing wrong with that, but the communication was sometimes difficult. After a full hour on the phone with support we has tried almost everything and the operator said "let's try one last thing" and then I got disconnected and never got the solution and gave up calling back support.

After about another hour I was able to figure it out on my own.

The installation woes behind me, it does run good and the signal is strong enough for me to roam around the house and do what I have to do without being tied down to the computer chair.

It's a good product but the installation didn't go so well.

Great for the price, June 6, 2006
By B. Graziana
Installation was not easy. I followed the instructions, but that took me nowhere. I then contacted customer service. The tech I talked to led me through the installation and after about 15 minutes I was connected. The router works great! I get very good range and speed! I am happy with it. I would recommend anyone to call customer service before they return the router.

Very hard to setup! I quit. Two hours with this router sent me back to the store for a return. I'm not new to computers but plug and play is what I expect in this kind of product.
Good luck!

Don't be fooled by the price!, June 5, 2006
By Rich (Tampa Bay)
I purchased this unit 11 months ago. Everything went well at first. It was easy to set up and things seemed fine. Several months ago, I started having problems with internet connectivity. Rebooting has helped, at times, but it is very inconsistent. I agree with other posters regarding Netgear's customer service. It is among the worst that I have dealt with. I have been reading the reviews for the Linksys Wireless g Router, and will be replacing this hunk-o-junk with the Linksys.

customer service sucks, June 1, 2006
By J. Breedlove
If you get a netgear product, its best if you know networking before hand. netgears customer service is the worst i've seen. everything they tell you is on the netgear website and they don't actually do any trouble shooting. the guy acted like i was stupid and didnt listen to anything that i said. and guess what? my router still doesnt work.

Is it the router Or is it the ISP, May 30, 2006
By Joe at Dallas
I've been using this router for two days and already I've begun to notice delays in the pages it serves, both for wired and wireless connections. I agree with other reviewers that customer support at NetGear is not the best. After having read other reviews about the latency with which pages are served, I will return this product tomorrow.

Nice Compact Unit, May 26, 2006

Nice very small compact untit. Easy to install. The price was right! Cheap! I've only had it one day. Works great. Very happy with this purchase.

I cannot recommend it. Mine crashes FAR to often., May 24, 2006
By Jay R. Wren (Milan, MI USA)
I cannot recommend it. Mine crashes FAR to often.

It just locks up, and you aren't sure if it is the internet which is slow or what. Luckily I have some computers connected to a different switch which run fine and fast on the network, even when this thing is crashing.

Maybe I have a bad unit, i need to call netgear and try an RMA, but I wanted to share my unfortunate experience.

Also drawbacks: no syslog for logging, no snmp for information. It really don't have any concept of running as an bridge AP and not a router. don't most of these wireless routers have bridge functionality for if I already have a router?

above was may 23, 2006... update august 26, 2006:

After using the latest flash about a month ago, the router is far more stable. for the price, I think it is worth it.

Set up help is awful, May 14, 2006
By scamperwillow (Sebastopol, CA)
The router seems to work fine although I haven't stretched its range yet. BUT the documentation is nonexistence and support is awful. the CD won't work in a mac and there are not even any preliminary instructions such as what to plug what into what if you can't open the CD. It would be very easy for them to make this product more user friendly. too bad they don't bother. But the price was good and it works.

Good router - requires reboot every few days, May 7, 2006
By midwest_desi (Cleveland, USA)
This is a good product, easy to setup and works pretty well. Can't say much about the range of the WiFi signal, but it works very well within the 30ft radius of my apartment.

The only issue I have noticed is that my internet connection dies every few days and a reboot of the router fixes the prohlem. This obviously should not happen but is a minor inconvienence.

Great until it died, May 4, 2006
By Sue G. (Gurnee, IL)
This router worked for about 14 months. I disconnected it one day, and then it would never work again. It powers up, the lights work, but the computer doesn't find it. I replaced it with the Linksys, which is working great.

    defective product, May 2, 2006
By Q. Zeng (chestnut hill, Ma United States)
The router I got was defective - the wired part working and the wireless does not. After wasting much time, I finally called their tech support. The person on the phone tried to convince me it was the computers and wirless cards. Well, he was wrong. I got a linksys and everything is workig now.

Frustrated and Disappointed, May 1, 2006
By NA (SC)
I was happy with how easy it was to install this router. I got such a great deal (too good to be true?) for $33 plus tax at Best Buy. However, once installed, I started having problems with my internet connection (no connection). I tried tech support who emailed me- #1. Connect router to the internet. I did not have an active internet connection with the router connected b/c of the router which I had mentioned in my email for assistance. Poor all around for someone who is an intermediate when it comes to computer repair.

Netgear customer service is terrible, April 25, 2006
By S. Amini
This router works well when you use the wired network, however, not being able to use the wireless defeats the whole purpose of a "wireless" router.
I purchased my router from bestbuy, and after a month of use, I kept getting disconnected from my wireless connection and the signal would decrease as soon as I connected. Long story short, I called netgear tech support in hope of getting an RMA with my warranty still intact. However, each time, after an hour and a half of them telling me it is a configuration problem, and spending time changing all sorts of configuartions they did not really help me. I knew this was a hardware problem, but they never listened. Their reasoning was that they wanted to figure out the issue before replacing my router. I told them that they can replace my router, and test the router at their labs. They never listened.
Last time that I called, the agent told me that a senior tech. will call me in the next 24 hours. This happened after an hour and a half of talking. The senior tech called me at 12:30am and left a message that since he was not able to reach me [I was sleep], i can call they support line again, and they are open 24/7.

The moral of the story is if you buy a netgear product pray that it will not malfunction. If it does, then don't expect anything back.

Netgear support is a shame to customer service.
