Nortel WLAN Access Point 2220 provides points of access to the wired Ethernet network. It supports both 802.11b and 802.11a, permitting seamless secure IP roaming across the two standards. Each Nortel Wireless LAN Access Point has built in redundancy with two firmware images for increased network availability. This ensures the wireless network is always available. By supporting a double rate 108Mbps turbo mode, faster throughput and greater range than the standard 802.11a 54Mbps can be achieved, when used in combination with Nortel Networks WLAN 2201 Mobile Adapter. By supporting the 802.3af Power over Ethernet draft-standard, Nortel WLAN Access Point 2220 can be powered via its Ethernet port. This simplifies and speeds up deployment, as a power outlet is not always available where the Access Point needs to be installed.
