works just fine as a bridge - quick and painless setup, February 28, 2008
    By A. MCREN
Took less than 5 minutes to get up and running as a bridge for my DirecTV reciever.
    1. manually configured my laptop ethernet interface to use 192.168.2.24
    2. since I do MAC filtering, I added the MAC address of the SMC to the allowed list on my Airport base station (it is on the bottom of the unit).
    3. powered up the SMC
    4. connected to laptop using supplied ethernet cable
    5. used web interface to login (didnt bother with CD software)
    6. used wizard - put in the SSID and WEP key of my AirPort base station.
    7. confirmed and saved settings
    8. unplugged from laptop and moved to its new location
    9. connected ethernet cable to DirecTV reciever.
    10. went to network setup on reciever and chose to connect now.
    11. done

After using for it a day, I have to add the following quibble: In my setup there isn't a good way to stash the SMC and I found the front link/activity lights to be annoyingly bright. Fixed this with a piece of electrical tape. Other than that, no issues; downloaded the 10 episode VoD free preview of Tudors with no hiccups (maybe more a testament to my ISP than SMC, but none-the-less).

        Didn't work for me, February 17, 2008

I bought this product to connect my Replay TV to my wireless network. It got great reviews so it must be good, right? Sadly, this didn't work for me. It was so frustrating trying to configure the device. I was about to call support when I saw the Linksys WET54G Bridge - now this one works for me.

        Horrible Device, February 8, 2008

I should have known from the get go that this was going to be a problem. First of all, the only way you can initially connect this device to your network is if you have a domain 192.168.2.x
And if you're like most people you have 192.168.1.x
SO after changing my network config, and connecting to the configuration web site tool 192.168.2.1 you have to enter a password. Fairly standard. Well, I entered the password and the system kept timing out. Not saying the password was incorrect, just a internet timeout. I tried using the CD that comes with the device...no go. VERY buggy software on that disk. I didn't even bother calling technical support, because if I DID get this onto my network and it got reset some how, I wouldn't want to have to go through the pain to get this up and running again. The device is going back tomorrow. If I could rate the device lower I would. I know computers, and this device is awful.

A waste of time and money, January 19, 2008

Setup seemed easy enough but when I couldn't get the unit to connect to my network I called SMC technical support. They couldn't get it to connect either. They thought the unit may be defective but said there wasn't anything they could do to help. They also said it would not work to connect my HD-XA2 to the internet even though it is supposed to allow gaming units, etc. to connect. I returned it and bought the Linksys Wireless N Game Adapter. It cost more but after 5 min. it was setup and working without issues. My HD-XA2 connects to the internet without problem. This unit allows a faster connection to the network than the previous Linksys game adapter.

        3 in 1 Device, November 25, 2007

This is an excellent 3 in 1 device. It does an excellent job at being a Wireless Ethernet Port for X-Box, PlayStation DirecTV receiver etc. It also works as a Wireless access point. Finally it will repeat your wireless signal if you need it to extend. I currently own two of these and I use one for a Xbox and PlayStation and one for a upstairs DirecTV receiver so that I can download on-demand to it. The only reason I am giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is that it is missing some of the more advanced configuration that I would like to see in a device of this type. But for the basics it is excellent for its price.

Easy to setup and works., January 11, 2007

I like this product. I origanly purchased a Linksys to bridge my ReplayTv and router. Four phone calls and around 3:00 AM I learned from Linksys that what I purchased the box that sead "bridging" was the incorect product.

Did a quick search and found this product. I did need to read the instructions to connect. She worked right away. An has been working every day for the past three months with out a problem.

    Good product, Recomended
