The bet router ever -- at least v1.1, August 10, 2008
By user (Austin, TX United States)
I've gone through a couple dozen routers,, including the previous 802.11n draft tew-631 from trendnet. This one is certainly the nicest and fastest of them all. However, there are two caveats: first, you have to get the latest firmware. Second, I originally had one that locked up randomly ever day or two -- ended up RMA-ing it and the new one hasn't locked up even once (AFAICT) in the last 6 weeks. I don't know if it was just a single bad router or if, perhaps, it was a problem that was fixed in the new v1.1 hardware (I'd originally had a v1.0). Anyway, the wireless negotiation is quick, the (new) router has been stable, and throughput is great. It's also nice finally to have a gigabit backbone on the router.

This router is very easy to set up and is much faster than my previous wireless router. I was up and running with an hour.

no better than my g router, June 16, 2008
By user (Lafayette, CA)
My g wireless router was failing and I needed to get a better connection to the distant parts of my house. I plugged this in and needed tech support to get past a Comcast problem. This router and Comcast modems use the same address so the address on the router needs to be changed. My wired computer next to the router worked great. The distant computer had a signal that failed every 10 secs. Technical support could not help and told me 2nd level support would call me to help. They never called back. If you have distant rooms you cannot wire you might try actiontec megaplug - I will be trying that next. Every house is different, and this product may or may not work for you.
I tried the actiontec megaplug 85 and it worked like a dream. I would highly recommnd this product for areas you cannot get cable to. Wireless can be very frustrating. The Actionted Megaplug 85 plugs into a wall socket and the back of the router just like a wired cable.

    Trendnet Gigabit Router-Think FAST!, May 21, 2008
By user (North Dakota)
Replacing a wireless G router with the Trendnet Gigabit router was a breeze. Instructions and stategically placed caution labels kept me from starting wrong (who needs the instructions I always say...) Hooked it up, fired it up and ran dslreports to see the results in real numbers. Both the PC and the iMac were posting huge numbers. Of course the PC was only about a third of the iMac, which was edging up on 10,000! Pages pop up like I am the only person on the whole cablemodem system. Such was not the case before the switch. I was on the brink of moving back to the DSL we had prior to cable. Not sure why this router works so well for that problem, but it did! Fired up the laptop and the wireless is really smokin' too. Good piece of hardware. Excellent deal. Thanks!!

I love this router. I had an older Linksys Wireless router that was giving me problems. This one works great. I don't get dropped every 10 minutes when I'm on my laptop.

Update after 6 months of use..., April 19, 2008
By user (Nashville)
5 Stars If I could change it! I have this router for 6 months at least now. Not only has it worked great, but I have not had to reset the router once. With my Linksys I had to reset the router once per week. That alone is worth the price I paid not to mention the great increase in speed. (Aug 2, 2008)

It was touch and go for a while.

***** UPDATE to Five Stars -- Working Great! Great distance! No disconnects! Very Fast! Watch movies through PS3, and computer at same time... Great buy! Hope it lasts. (4/20/08) *****

Purchased this router to replace my linksys wireless b which was working fine though I had to reset it about once a week.

My inventory of network cards include: belkin wireless g internal, linksys wireless g usb, two laptops (dell and compaq), one ethernet and one apple g4 all using a comcast isp. I would not consider myself an expert at all. I am an amatuer who doesn't want to pay technical people.

The router installed fine, and the user templates were helpful but clunky.

At first the router kept needing to be repaired, and I could not access the internet.

After about thirty minutes of messing around with the mac address, and other controls to repair, the xp computer connected by ethernet began to work.

However, then I began having trouble getting the various adapters on different xp, vista and mac os working. It took about two hours total from start to finish.

But as of this evening, all computers are working. My son has just successfully connected the wii to the network, and we are going upstairs to work on the PS3.

The apple computer using the "airport" we could not get to work. Since that computer is close to the router, we simply ran an ethernet cable and it immediately worked. I don't yet know what the problem is regarding the wireless.

The router is very fast. Transfers on the network are lightning speed. Movies and music can easily be transfered and play across the network, something I never could do on the wireless b.

I am sure there is more to tell. But as an amatuer I wanted to demystify the process for some who may be hesitant. I'm thinking if I can do it, most any one can.

I will change the rating to a 5 star after I have had more time to see how it works and holds up.

    192.168.10.1, April 19, 2008
By user (Glendale, CA)
192.168.10.1 again 192.168.10.1

That is the address to access the router. Dlink likes to use 192.168.0.1, well that's the address for the Trendnet. Now why is it so important? Because they don't bother to tell you what it is until after you install all this crazy network monitoring crap that you don't need. They force you to use the CD to setup the router, ok fine, if you are a total newbie and have no ideal what you are doing, then I can understand how the CD would help with step by step instructions. I did as the tutorial said and it kept not finding an internet connection. After repeated attempts, I finally found the 192.168.10.1 address online and manually configured the router and it worked instantly. This company needs to just let people know what it is in the manual that comes in the box because not everyone is a router newbie. Wasted 30 minutes of my life on that stupid tutorial. The worst part of it was that it installs some program called Network Magic that stinking takes over your network settings in windows. Fine, but the worst part is that it's a 30 day trial. It's not even that great of a program. Windows is simple and fine, I don't need extra crap on there slowing the computer down. Overall, nothing else to complain about, the router works just like any other router. Please remember to use WPA2 encryption. Good luck and don't forget 192.168.10.1

I get a great signal from this little box. It was easy to hook up and syncs with all my LAN and Wireless Products.

Highly recomended!

No real issues..., February 10, 2008
By user
I've been running with this router for a month now with little to no issues. Setup was mediocre, the average user may need some assistance but its not too difficult. Distance is far superior to my previous D-Link, I'm able to walk 3 houses down without losing a connection (whereas before I wouldn't be able to reach the middle of my driveway). The only problem I ran into was interference with a cordless phone running the same signal, pitched the phone and I've been error free since.

No connectivity issues so far, easy install, December 14, 2007
By user (Seattle, WA)
This is the second router I've used at home. My first was a fine Belkin wireless router, but did not have the Gigabit or N capability. This router had a barely more complicated install than my Belkin. I'm not as fond of the website that TrendNET uses because it seems a little too busy, but I think that's just because there are more selections to choose for the TrendNET.

This router also has a second user (called "User", but maybe it can be changed) that can be logged in on the router page (other than Admin), which I don't like because I haven't found a way to limit that user's website view. In other words, I appear to have the same access to the router's functions under both user IDs. I feel the "User" ID is unnecessary since I can't imagine wanting to give anyone access to my router and then limit that access; to me it would be all or no access. Like someone else has mentioned, it's easy to set up encryption. I use WPA-PSK, but it has other security options as well.

My only negative after about a month of usage is the message that pops up stating I don't have a certificate for my network. This message appears in a small balloon like the balloon that states I am connected to the Internet and to the network. I never have any problems with my connection, though, and I have been able to access all sites I have tried to (unless the site itself was down). I have three items connected to the Belkin: laptop by wireless 802.11g, HP Media Center PC by Ethernet cable, and HP Media Vault by Ethernet cable. I can access all of these items via the network.

I can't remark on either the Gigabit LAN or "N" wireless since I don't have those technologies yet.

Update: My local network now connects at 1Gbps since my new PC has Gigabit Ethernet. I have noticed a huge increase in speed when copying files to my NAS.

Unlike some routers, this one is easy to install and easy to encrypt/secure wirelessly, December 2, 2007
By user (Georgia)
Unlike some routers that you have to configure before you can get them to work, this one came with an installation CD that did the job right, no strings attached. Instructions were extremely simple and easy to follow, and i've never had any problems with it. Encrypting/securing the router is part of the installation, and you don't have to be a computer junkie to figure it out. About the only downside of the product is fingerprints are highly visible on it when you touch it since it's like a black shiny mirror, but you can just wipe those right off. This product not only supports N-band, but is backwards compatible with all other previous wireless bands (G-band, B-band, etc), no configuration required.

Pros: Rate, Range, Features.

Cons: None really - only GIG WAN port is useless at this time.

I only have 802.11g clients at this time - getting full 54 Mbps (all the client can do) with 75% signal at 50 feet and 1 floor away while I was getting half of the rate and signal with old 802.11g router at the same location. WISH Feature is cool and it works.
