Cannot recommend this product, November 25, 2003
By unknown
Usually, I am a big proponent of buying the lowest priced product when it comes to commodity networking devices like NICs. However, I cannot recommend this product if you have Windows XP. Not only did the thing not work after I installed the drivers, but the mere installation of the drivers wreaked havoc on my Windows Services, somehow deleting my NetLogon keys. I'll have to rebuild my machine because of this cheap device.

It's a shame that the US Robotics brand has gone so far downhill.

High failure rate, October 17, 2003
By V. Jacobi (Milwaukee, WI USA)
I purchased 7 USR wireless products almost a year ago, USR2410 (PC Card) and USR2415 (PC Card with PCI adapter). Within the first 4 months, 2 failed and in the past 2 months, 2 more failed. The failure seems to occur in the PC card itself (USR2410). I had a problem returning the first card, but each subsequent return has been uneventful. While USR seems to provide support, this doesn't fare well for cost of ownership and reflects poorly on the quality of these products. I've since switched to D-Link and have been much happier!

Use Netgear MA401 driver with this USR2410, August 2, 2003
By unknown
This card works great only if you use Netgear MA401 driver! I am using this card on Windows95B. Drivers/Software on the CD doesn't work well. I downloaded the latest driver from USR website but still didn't work. I downloaded Netgear MA401 driver and installed it. And now, it works perfectly! :) This card should work w/ Win95B, 98,98SE, ME, NT, 2000, XP, and Linux!! Thanks Netgear! lol :)

Use Netgear MA401 driver. It works!, June 19, 2003

After downloading Netgear MA401driver and install it, as told in one of the former reviews, the card works now!

I found the old driver was OK when connecting in Adhoc mode, but not in Infrastructure mode( with a wireless router or access point). I've tried the 1.3.3 version driver from usr.com, updated firmware, and tried some other compatible driver, all failed.

It did give me lots of hassle. I combated with the card for a week. But considering I got this card for almost FAR ( bought last November), I think I should rate this card as 4 stars

Excellent range, good signal strength, works well with Linux, January 26, 2003

Excellent product. Much better range than Linksys WPC11. Shows much better signal strength than WPC11 at the same location. Took me all the time that it took me to plug it in to my laptop for it to work. I was using WPC11 previously (a Prism2 card), running Linux on my laptop, and since the USR 2410 uses the same chipset, I have the drivers configured already!

It freeze my laptop frequently, January 25, 2003
By gomyway (Seattle, WA USA)
Although it works, it will freeze my laptop without any reason. Seems it's safe when the signal isn't too strong(yellow icon). By the way, no news for my rebate application after nearly half an year.

must donwload new driver form it;s website, December 20, 2002
By stoneskin (Philadelphia, PA United States)
In both winXP or Win2K, you must download the new driver for robstics.com for this card. otherwise, it not work on wireless access point.

Not good at all, Don't BUY IT, December 1, 2002
By dscut (US)
I was using D-link 650 at the library before. The signals was very strong on the first floor. But after installing the 2410, my laptop can't get any signals at all. All the emails sent to the customs service never got any satisfying answer. That's a really bad one. Don't buy it.

    Works fine, November 17, 2002
By homer... (Pittsburgh, PA United States)
This card has worked fine for me in WinXP Pro for about 6 or 7 months now, despite what other people have said. Range is smaller than some cards I think, but I can't complain about performance. Also has 128-bit WEP, so ...AR who can complain? Caveat: rebate does take a while to receive.

Not Good for more than 50 Feet., October 25, 2002
By Abhay Gupta (Bay Area, CA United States)
I bought the card and when I moved my laptop to another room 50 feets away it stopped connecting. Even 900 MHz phone works there.

This card does not work with the popular software NetStumbler.

Couldn't get it to work with the Lucent RG-1000 access point, September 28, 2002
By Beeeil (Unionville, PA USA)
Currently I have 2 wireless workstations in my house, and both use the Lucent Silver card. For access point, I have the Lucent RG-1000 residential gateway (I know, it's older, but I got into the Wifi game early).

When I wanted to add another wirless workstation to my Wifi network, it was a pleasent surprise to find that the cards no longer costs over a hundred dollars as before. They now cost well under fifty. So I purchased by price and bought the U.S. Robotics wireless card, thinking that they should all interact together.

Once I received this card, I immediately installed the software. As for the management software included, it's pretty standard, but not as nice as the Lucent nor the Linksys. You can set up multiple profiles, but to switch between the profiles is not as easy as with the other two brands.

Then, I spent several hours configuring the WEP configuration on the AP gateway as well as on the card, but couldn't get them to talk to each other. I would consider myself to be technically very competent, having worked with these things since they first become available. But still no dice. Note that I have my RG-1000 configured with WEP turned on, with a custom password.

I then tried a Linksys card (also 128-bit in 64-bit mode), and it worked with my Lucent gear right away as it should.

I give it a 2-star because I'm sure it's compatible with most other environments. But if you have a Lucent RG-1000 and want to expand your wireless network, you may want to look elsewhere. As for me, this card is going to eBay.

It is all worth the money, September 28, 2002

In fact i am writing this review after hooked up this wireless card to my laptop. Please remember to download the latest drivers from site. USR.com

Weak reception, shop around, September 26, 2002
By unknown
While I did not have much problems configuring it to use with the wireless network I have access to, I've watched with envy as some of my colleagues enjoyed wireless access in a much wider area than I did.

Keep in mind, that "open field" distance on this model is only around 300feet, or about 1/3 of other products available on the market. If your wirelss network is strong, it's probably a less of a concern. But if you want to have a longer "electronic leash", go ahead and buy something else.

It works, but problems setting up., September 24, 2002

I finally got the card working on an IBM and Compaq M300. The drivers on the CD are useless. I downloaded the lastest driver from USR, worked on the IBM, but not the compaq. I had to run a firm ware upgrade on the Card before the Compaq M300 would work. Also very limited range. Works in my house fine, but going 2 floors away the signal strength drops considerably. Will not buy another, even at the good price. Using a DI-614+ Wireless Router

After nearly a month of frustrations, I finally found the secret to this card! If you purchase this card, do yourself a HUGE favor, and do not install the US Robotics drivers! Instead, use the Netgear MA401 drivers! These two cards are internally identical, and Netgear actually knows how to make the card work! For the low price, you cannot beat this "Netgear" card! I am a Cisco Certified Networking Associate, and this card gave me nothing but problems until I installed the Netgear drivers. Now I have no problems with the card! Though signal strength is still a little low.

Doesn't work with Windows XP, August 28, 2002
By Honest Review (Alexandria, VA United States)
Like the previous reviewer, I bought this card for its great price and U.S. robotics reputation. Well, that reputation has sunk. This is the worst card I have ever experienced. No drivers for Windows XP. Sure, you can go to their website and get updated drivers, but Windows XP refuses to verify them for a reason -- They don't work. Bad support, bad card. Will not buy another U.S. Robotics product based on this experience.

I did not receive any mail-in rebate, take care about that!, August 28, 2002

I did not receive any mail-in rebate, take care about that!

Absolutely the worst card. ... for a reason, August 20, 2002
By Sam (Austin, TX United States)
This is the worst card in the market. Tried netgear , linksys and USR2410 cards. It is far inferior in signal range. This website drivers are useless on XP. The support is horrific. 9am to 5 pm and no weekends and has you on hold for over an hour and no toll free number. Barely useful support.

I thought the card was cheap for $$ bucks. But it is ... for a reason. The range is 300 ft outdoors for this card Vs 1650 ft for linksys/netgear.

I just returned my card and getting myself a linksys.

Not worth the hassle of even trying.

Great value but don't use the packaged drivers!, August 10, 2002
By rirugrat (Cranston, RI United States)
The US Robotics USR2410 802.11b PC card is a great value at [price] (I used a [price] coupon code and [price] rebate to get the net price to [price], which is practically unbeatable for a wireless PC card). I'm able to link to my Netgear MR314 router with no problems. The range isn't as good as my daughter's Linksys USB wireless adapter, but I can go anywhere in the house and yard and still browse the Net with no problems regardless of what the link and signal strength indicators say.

However, do not, repeat DO NOT use the enclosed drivers for this card! I am using an IBM Thinkpad T21 with Windows 2000 Professional and the driver/config utility on the CD (version 1.25) crashed my system repeatedly and corrupted my VPN software. Instead, go to USR's website at [URL] to download the uninstall utility, version 1.33 of the driver and the firmware upgrade which flashes the PC card and improves performance. The site also has drivers for Mac, WinCE and Linux as well.

Once I installed the newest drivers everything has been great. No complaints! There are better wireless cards on the market, but not for this price!
