I bought this item at Compusa for $29.99. I use it with my laptop on a USB 1.1 port. My old Belkin B/G card only received 1 weak signal at my location. The Zyxel adapter receives SEVEN signals at the same location. I decided not to use the install software which came with it. When XP discovered my new hadware, I inserted the Zyxel install CD and searched for the driver. 30 seconds later the adapter was ready to go and receiving signals. I am very happy with this device. USB 1.1 versus 2.0 does not appear to make any difference in the data speed.

As stated in the above review there is some complexity in the software (it does not want to use Windows for the configuration) but the quality of the manufacturer is proven (Funk is a industry leader). Plus this adapter supports both WPA and WPA2. I am running this on Windows XP (not Windows 98) and I did go out and download the latest software from the Zyxel Site. That pretty much did the trick and adapter is working great.

While the device itself seems to work okay, the Odessy software that's required to enable WPA security is complete rubbish. It basically wouldn't work at all on Win98, and although it worked for a while on Win2000, it would eventually give an "Adaptor not licensed" error after a couple sessions, and I'd have to re-boot the computer.

Bottom line.... until this company figures out how to integrate its hardware and software to work together, I recommend going with a namebrand product like NetGear.
