Great Product! Great Parental Control! Easy setup., January 4, 2007
By IT Guy (Cincinnati, OH)
I recomend that the first thing you do is update the firmware on this router before using or at least checking to see if you have the latest. Zyxel's support team is very helpful with this and it is a fairly easy process. After that, setup was a breeze. The kids have to log on to the internet and I have not been able to find any holes in the filtering. I did find a small loophole in the wireless security. Windows 98 laptops running older wireless cards seem to be immune to the parental block. Other than that I have never had to reset this router in 4 months and I have never not been able to connect to the internet. I do suggest setting your kids computers to the Zyxel parental control login homepage to speed things up. That way it doesn't have to redirect to it. I feel safe letting my 8 and 10 year old connect to the internet without me standing over them! Great product, tons of cool features. A great buy especially for the price!

This router lacks essential features, December 13, 2006
By ctachme (Traverse City, Michigan)
If you want to be able to access your computers from the internet, this router will not work for you. When you access your IP from the internet, you get the router's configuration page. Otherwise, this router seemed to be unreliable, and the parental controls did not even support fast-user switching on your computers (for either Windows or Mac)! Overall, it is a poor product and I returned it as fast as I could.

Parental Control require subscription, August 15, 2006
By Peter C. Grace (Simi Valley, CA USA)
To keep parental controls enabled over the trial period, one must purchase an icard - which runs in the $70 range per annum. This wasn't disclosed anywhere when I purchased my HS-100W.

ZyXEL doesn't seem to care about the problems, June 14, 2006
By Gordon (Richmond, VA USA)
Problems with Parental control ruin an otherwise mediocre router. While it can work, it reboots itself randomly. ZyXEL technical support listens, but does very little to resolve the problems.

Router has problems, May 17, 2006
By Marty (Buffalo, NY)
Problems with parental control feature of this router causes the router to reboot randomly or lock up or lose it's own login page. Zyxel has known about issues for 6 months. If your thinking of using this feature think again. You can search the forums on the site DSLREPORTS for Zyxel HS-100w for more infomation.
