    killer 802.11b wireless router, May 5, 2004

We've had the B-2000 in place at our office since 12/03 without so much as a burp. This router is outstanding and blows away the consumer grade routers by far. If you want reliable a reliable wireless LAN, then get yourself one. We are using orinoco gold cards for the notebooks, and the zyxel B-200 for three desktops, all utilizing 128bit WEP. Like I said, you just won't get this kind of trouble free operation from a retail store router.

EDIT: They now have another router that replaced the B-2000, but I hear it's every bit as good if not better than this one. We upgraded our laptops to Dell 700M's that have built in wireless, and they connected to the router first time and every time without a problem. You will not find a better router for your SOHO than a Zyxel.

I went through 2 other routers before I came across this gem. It is not found at you local CompUSA but you can't beat it. I have a ZyXEL DSL modem and I could not get either the LynkSys or the Netgear 801.11b routers to sync with it properly. Both technical support for the router manufacturers and for the DSL modem kept pointing fingers at who's equipment was not operating properly. Finally I decided that if I got both the router and the modem from the same manufacturer then maybe they would jive, or at least they would give me some technical support. The tech support I did not need, this thing runs like a champ. I am using another computer in the house with a Netgear Wireless PCA Adapter Model MA311 and it works fine. Super easy to get up and running. I would recommend this to everyone.

Let me keep this brief. The ZyAIR B-2000 is a great product. Especially if you are worried about people hijacking your wireless network.

This is probably the best looking wireless router on the market, and has a "Mac-Like" pulsing blue light that lets you know when the product is sending data. It has a really easy to use web interface including a "set-up" wizard, and for the techies out there you can telnet into it.

The nicest feature is that it has a built in 802.1x user database. 802.1x is an industry standard for controlling user access to a network. Many other APs say they support 802.1x, but they require you have an expensive RADIUS server that actually does the user control. All they do is pass the information through. The B-2000 has a built in database so you don't need a RADIUS server. You just setup the user info on the B-2000 and it takes care of the rest. I also got a B-100 card for my laptop. With it came a free version of an 802.1x client to run on my laptop to use the authentication.

It was all very easy to set up.

I've had no problems with dropped connections, and the range beats my friend's Linksys.
